About
For some time the economic, environmental and technological history of the energy sector have had a focal point in my research and publication. However, my most recent edited volume 'Thinking through the Environment. Green Approaches to Global History' (White Horse Press 2011) focuses on methodologies in environmental history. I have also edited and co-edited books on the economic history of small countries, such as 'Pathbreakers, Small European Countries Responding to Globalisation and De-globalisation,' which was published by Peter Lang in 2008. In addition, I have published more than 100 scientific articles and chaired the local organising committee that hosted the 6th ESEH Conference in summer 2011 Turku, Finland. I am Professor of Finnish history at the University of Turku, where I teach modern history and the methodology of historical research. I gained my M.Soc.Sc. and Licentiate’s degree at the University of Helsinki and Ph.D. in the London School of Economics. I currently work at Rachel Carson Center in Munich and my project in progress is dealing with the comparison of Finnish, Icelandic and Irish famines induced by natural disasters.
